One move that changed my entire freelancing career
Blog

Hi freelancers! I want to share a story about how I found my breakthrough in freelancing. It comes down to one move.
When I started, I had a strong portfolio in brand design. I also had great client reviews. I thought this would be my ticket to success on freelance platforms too. I was wrong. For two years, I did not get a single order.
Then one day, I found Lottie animation. Very few people were offering this service. My portfolio for it was smaller than my brand design portfolio, but I decided to give it a shot. That decision changed everything. After two long years of silence, orders and messages finally started coming in.
That is when I understood the real power of finding the sweet spot. The fewer people serving a skill, the more room there is for you. As Peter Thiel puts it, "Competition is for losers."
Once that one skill took off, it set off a domino effect. I narrowed my focus to skills close to 2D animation and motion design, like Instagram videos and crowdfunding videos. With this focused approach, my reach on freelance platforms grew fast. In just four months, I became a Level 2 Seller on Fiverr.
I hope this story helps you rethink your own freelancing strategy. Sometimes the road with less traffic is the one that gets you there faster.
